How To Rock A Girls Weekend In Canmore

I really needed a girls weekend away. I can’t even tell you how important it is for me to step away from my life, my kids, my to-do list and just spend some quality time with friends. So that’s what I did. 13 friends. 5 condos. 2 nights. 100’s of laughs. This is how to rock a girls weekend in Canmore.

Canmore is a perfect place to have a get away and feel like you’re far from home but in my case, only drive 45 minutes. Nestled in the shadow of the Three Sisters mountain range, right off the highway sits the Mystic Springs Chalets & Hot Pools. I love finding hidden gems like this, especially since I’ve lived in Calgary my whole life and I’ve never seen Mystic Springs.

It was the perfect place for a group weekend away with rows of 2 bedroom chalets that are fully equipped with full kitchens, dining area, living room, 2 bathrooms and a front door as well as a back door that give easy access to the hot pool and hot tub area in the centre court yard. I admit, I was skeptical about how warm the hot pool would be given the freezing temperature outside but it was pleasantly warm enough for a swim even after sitting in the covered hot tub for 20 minutes. I was grateful for the robes provided in the chalet to wear for the dash back to the condo.

Once upon a time, a girls weekend would mean night clubs, dancing and after hours pizza, which I’ll admit, I still enjoy once in a while but this weekend was all about RELAXING! First up on the agenda for night 1 we all decided to Netflix and Craft. Some crocheted, some made Christmas gifts with a Cricut cutter, some watched Gilmore Girls and some enjoyed the hot pool and hot tub. Regardless of which condo we ended up in, there was always someone to hang with.

During the day we decided to venture out into town for a little wandering. Kid free (ours anyway), unscheduled, stress free. There’s nothing better than good friends, warm tea, shopping and of course the mountain air. Main street in Canmore is lined on both sides with shops that have everything from clothes, hand crafts, sporting goods, culinary gadgets, mountain home decor and smack dab in the middle is a Good Earth Coffee House, and so much more.

There’s nothing more Canadian Rocky Mountain-esque than going into Banff (just a short 15 minutes west of Canmore in Banff National Park) and riding up the gondola at Sulphur Mountain. Before heading home on Sunday we headed into Banff to check out the newly renovated Above Banff. After a $26 million rebuild, the top of the mountain now has an updated observation deck, more inside space, interpretive centre and a most impressive and gorgeous new restaurant space.

We finished off a wonderful girls weekend with lunch at Sky Bistro, the new destination dining experience with a view like nothing else you’ll ever have. Floor to ceiling windows look out over the mountain peaks and passing clouds while the interior is a mix of modern and mid century decor. The food is as amazing as the scenery and all sourced from local ingredients. The beet and goat cheese salad with salmon is to die for! It’s the perfect space to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or even a small wedding. Just imagine the photos! Stunning! I’ll definitely be back.

It was an amazing weekend filled with laughter, relaxation, food and some great sleep. Just what a gal needed before the holiday rush started around here. Sigh. When can I go back?
