3 Tips for Periscope at a Conference

Hello Replay Viewers!!! Welcome to my scope!

3 tips for periscope

That’s what you’ll usually hear me say when you watch one of my 120+ broadcasts on Periscope. I am fully immersed and loving the now 6 month old app. Periscope was purchased by Twitter for somewhere in the neighbourhood of 100 million dollars and launched on March 26, 2015. In 6 short months the platform has gained 15 million users and boasts that 40 years worth of video is watched daily on the free app. That’s insane. So how can I deny the facts, live streaming is the new black.

I’ve watched Syrian refugees boarding trains and heard the crying children. I’ve watched fashion shows in New York city. I’ve watched the ocean waves on the north shore in Hawaii. I’ve watched the pope arriving in Washington DC being greeted by the President. And somehow all those things felt different than watching them on TV. The truth is, I could have watched each of those events on YouTube or CNN and some of it may have even been live but for some reason, watching it live stream on Periscope makes it more personal, more real. I can interact with the person on the other end. I can ask questions, give hearts (similar to a like on Facebook but you can do it up to 500 times) and invite my followers to watch with me. It truly is like the Truman Show.

THIS is how we will get our news and current events.

I’ve spent the last 5 months playing around with the app and watching as much as I can to educate myself. While I have yet to attend a conference and actually use Periscope, I’ve watched enough to come up with 3 tips for Periscope at a conference like BlissdomCanada.

Check out my replay below for my 3 tips and make sure you follow me on Periscope to see all the fun, learning, tears, laughs, high jinx and hilarity that goes on at Blissdom 2015! Yes, it was live. No, I did not edit my video in any way. That’s the beauty of Periscope. Nerves, mistakes, trips, falls and fumbles, you just have to go with it. Doesn’t get more honest than that. And even though I’ve done well over 100 scopes, doesn’t mean I’m totally comfortable on camera, I’m still working on it. Ok, now you can go watch it.

PS, No live streaming app can replace the value of actually being there, hugging people in person, making new friends and connecting face to face. Don’t miss out. There’s still time for you to get your ticket to the LAST BLISSDOM CANADA conference EVER!

See you there!
