5 Reasons Why I Will Keep My Husband
Ok ladies, I know that you don’t want to hear all about how great my husband is but really, this is too impressive and too rare to keep it to myself. So lets just get thru this sappy moment and then we can get back to bitching about them tomorrow. K?
1) He surprised me on Friday with a family weekend get-away for Mother’s Day/My Birthday. I was told to pack a bag and get in the car. Yay, I love adventures! (if I can control it)
2) He forced me to unplug for the weekend. After driving for more than an hour we arrived at the Anchor D Ranch just outside of Turner Valley on the boarder of Kananaskis Provincial Park. Totally NOT what I had in mind…I’m pretty sure that building behind the cows isn’t a spa. We drove up to the larger of the 2 guest cabins on the ranch and went in. It was a rustic little log cabin with a wood burning stove and a loft for the kids to sleep in. A wrap around covered porch, rolling hills, fresh air. No internet, wait?! What?! The quiet, peaceful setting and mountain air made me instantly tired, but I was so happy. How did he know that this is exactly what I needed?
3) He sent me on a 2 hour trail ride on horseback. The Anchor D Ranch is home to more than 100 horses, 3 brand new baby colts less than a month old, a handful of cows, 5 dogs and a marsh full of birds and frogs to sing you to sleep. On Saturday afternoon Brigette and Stella and I went on a 2 hour horseback trail ride. The girls giggled and galloped their way along the steep mountain trails. Stella’s horse, Hank, stumbled on a log and lost his balance tipping her off the saddle. Being behind me I didn’t see it but by the time Brigette yelled out to me that her sister had fallen off her horse, Stella was already standing up, brushing herself off and was being hoisted back up in her saddle. She was branded a “real cowgirl” by the 3 cowgirl guides. Brigette was pleased at her budding riding skills and her ability to control her horse thru the hard turns. She has a love of horses that runs deep…I’m in trouble.
4) He ordered me a massage. After confirming that indeed there was no luxury spa facility tucked away behind the barns, I resigned myself to letting go of the idea of getting a massage for my aching muscles post trail ride. I was packing up for the drive home when a lady walked into the cabin with her folding massage table in hand. My 60 minute massage was the perfect end to our stay at the ranch. When I emerged from my session I found the cabin clean and the car and kids packed and ready to go. WOW! Our last stop before home was brunch at the Chuck Wagon Cafe in Turner Valley that was featured on the Food Networks You Gotta Eat Here. And all I gotta say is, you GOTTA eat there! The eggs benny is over the top good and the pancakes are the size of a large dinner plate.
5) He organized ALL of this without help! As exciting as my birthday/Mother’s Day is for me, this time of year causes my husband enormous stress. He always has the best of intentions to make it a special day but in the past has fallen short. Hence the inspiration for my post HERE. BUT this year was totally different. This year he put his heart into planning and he really came thru with a very special weekend for me.
And so I shall keep him…for another year.
Wonderful! As soon as you said cabin, fresh air, rolling hills I thought of the most refreshing nap too! Great job brent.
