7 things I learned having Facial Fillers for the first time
While this experience is presented in partnership with Allergan, ALL opinions are always my own. Special thanks to Dr. Arlette and the staff at Total Skincare Centre.
I know you’ve been waiting for the big reveal! It’s been 10 weeks since I started this journey with facial fillers and 5 weeks since I completed phase 2 of my treatments. It’s been a fantastic experience from the consultation with Dr. Arlette and his staff at Total Skincare Centre, to the first phase and then 2 weeks later the second and final phase. I’ve been very well cared for at every turn. I’ve learned a lot about the process so I’m back with my third and final instalment in this series with, 7 things I learned having facial fillers for the first time. Also, check out my before and after pics!
- Facial fillers are for everyone – You don’t have to wait until you’re a “certain age” to think about injectables, the 40’s are a perfect time. I wasn’t showing massive signs of aging yet and the signs that were showing made me a perfect candidate for fillers.
- Juvederm facial fillers can be used to lift – I was amazed to learn that facial fillers are not only used to fill in creases but they’re also used to lift and give back volume.
- Facial fillers work in partnership with other injectables – Some people do get facial fillers alone but my treatment required a combination of injectables that support each other to achieve the desired result. Dr. Arlette took the time to explain in detail which facial filler and injectable would be right for me.
- There is no downtime – You can literally get facial fillers on your lunch break and go back to work. There was no pain, no swelling and minimal bruising the next day.
- Less is more – Most of what we see about facial fillers and injectables is in the face of countless celebrities. Seemingly extreme make-overs with faces that look tight and frozen. Finding the right doctor is key. Trusting them is important and working together to find a plan that you’re happy with.
- I still look like me – My goal was never to look like a different person. I am thrilled with the results and when I look in the mirror I see the same face. My face looks rested, awake almost stream lined, if that makes sense. My cheekbones look lifted and my jaw is more defined. All with fillers! Who knew?!
- Maintenance is key – Some injectables last 3-4 months and others last 1-3 years. Considering I had 2 types of injectables that work together, it makes sense that in order to maintain this look, I’ll have to maintain each part as is required. Listen to your doctor and visit for check ups.
Final thoughts: To be perfectly honest, when I was first approached with this partnership I wondered, why me? Do I look like I need facial fillers? I was curious and let’s be real, 41 is a good time to start thinking about it. Can I tell the difference between the before and after? Heck YES! Am I happy with the results?Absolutely! The areas that I notice it the most are my cheekbones and jaw line but as you can see from my pictures, the creases in my forehead are virtually not visible at all.
Would I do it again? Yes. And there’s a great loyalty program for repeat clients called, Brilliant Distinctions where you can earn points for discounts and specials.

I’m so impressed – you still look like you! There’s no way I’d see you on the street and ‘know’ you had anything done. Fantastic results.
