Best Dad Ever
So I’m here for over a week with the kids all by myself. I do all the things for all the kids. Feed them at least 3 times a day. I guess it’s the law or something like that. Wash them, on occasion. Get them to school (because that’s my alone time) and generally keep them alive. So I truck along for 9 days doing music and riding and reading and studying and laundering and feeding and cleaning and tucking in and kissing goodnight and snuggling, trying my best not to lock myself in the bathroom with the bag of Halloween candy.
So why is it that he’s been away for 9 days working. Out of sight. Out of mind. And he walks in the house and instantly receives this…..
Best Dad Ever??
Oh and did I mention that he’s going away again today?
I’m totally doing it wrong.

I know right! When Dwayne leaves for the night to play hockey, it’s like the sky is falling. What am I? Chopped liver? Chalk it up to absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Trust me when I say that as the years go by it is ALWAYS the Dad who is the hero. No matter how many dinners you cook, how much laundry you do, how many lunches you pack, grocery runs, trips to the doctor, homework, and on and on, as long as the Dad accomplishes one little thing, like maybe take the garbage out or clear the snow (oh wait – aren’t you doing that too?) he’s a hero! And you know what, so he is! But then again, you are QUEEN of all you survey. So I guess it balances out. Or at least it will – in time!
My dad used to travel when I was a kid. Once he came home and all 4 kids ran to the door, took one look at him, said “Oh, it’s you” and went to play games. My mom felt very vindicated.

That sucks. If there’s any consolation, me and my sis view our mom as the hero, not our dad.
