Hawaii Makes Happy Kids
Lets be honest, Hawaii can make anyone happy. Forget Disneyland, Hawaii is the happiest place on earth, people and I found, that without question, Hawaii makes happy kids.
Life gets simpler. Everything is on “island time”. I get lots of sleep (this is key). The vitamin D tank is filled to the brim. Everything is good. Our time on Oahu gave the kids full access to not only some of the best beaches in the world but also a tropical sun heated pool for those non-beach days. I never knew I gave birth to 4 mermaids but apparently when you put my kids in pool water, that’s exactly what they turn into.
And it’s damn cute.
My big mermaids have found their kin and are taking notes on form and function of their ‘tales’ by obsessing over the newest season of Mako Mermaids. Well, there goes my fantasy of having birthed mer-children. It’s a good thing I bought them their very own mermaid tails to bring with us as this show has made the girls believe that they too really COULD be mermaids and that it is their destiny to live near water.
-Mom, can we come back next year? Or can we move here? We need to be in the ocean all the time!
Listen, kid, you and me both.
The whole vacation was spent on a much different schedule and I have to admit that because I was in the island vibe, it sure made for some happy kids. I think it was on day 15 that I finally said, “huh, I don’t think I’ve yelled at any of my kids since we arrived here.” Of course Murphy and his trusty law made sure that I ate those very words not 10 minutes after they left my lips.
Sigh.
However, I have to credit my kids for also finding their peace and calm in the tropics as well. And by peace, I mean having full access to their devices and Netflix, when we were in the close quarters of the condo after a long day of beaching and sun. And by calm, I mean being so exhausted by the time dinner was over that they all passed out in bed as soon as their tanned bums fell into them.
I am taking a cue from the kids and am starting to believe that mermaids can be real and that we can live by the ocean (the warm part of it) one day.
Perhaps it is our destiny.
We shall see.
Glad you enjoyed your stay in Hawaii, I wish I could spend some time this year. Continue posting your travel adventure.
